How to use WAIS search interface

Individual or combined Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) can be used to modify search criteria. Partial word searches using the "*" wildcard can be used to complete the stem of a word. Boolean operators and partial word searches can be combined for maximum versatility. Search strings containing blank spaces or non-alphanumeric characters must be surrounded by quotation marks.
Example: bacteri* in STRAINS-bact
In this example, bacteri* will match the words "Acetic Acid Bacterium", "Bacterionema matruchotii", "Bacterium anitratum", etc.

Example: "ubiquinone+Q-10"
is equal to ubiquinone AND "Q-10" in RKC code
Quotation marks are needed to search on strings containing non-alphanumeric characters or blank spaces.Without the quotation marks, this search string would have been treated as
ubiquinone OR Q OR 10.
Even if you use quotations, such target as "Q-10" is not valid in the current WAIS search; however "MK-10" is valid. We suppose that this matter depends on the length of the string.
Example: cylindrical bacteria
is equal to cylindrical OR bacteria in RKC code
Without the quotation marks, this search string would have been treated as
cylindrical OR bacteria.
